your bare minimum isn’t actually that bare or minimum. my dad once told me that there’s nothing in this world that’s easy and that’s true tbh. everything we do takes energy, time, and effort. even the little things. if you feel like you’re not doing enough please try to think about your circumstances and what’s currently available to you: chances are, there’s something that’s diverting or otherwise draining you. and to pull away from that and get something done regardless? well, i think that’s really admirable! please try to take pride in the things you do accomplish in a day, no matter how small or trifling you perceive them to be. you can’t be proud of your growth if you don’t notice where you already are!

no offense but this conversation was literally a major turning point in my life

Heather Franzen, the artist who made this beautiful comic has a tumblr, instagram, and an online shop where you can buy a mini story book of this comic, along with prints of the characters at a reunion, and many other neat pieces of art! If you have enjoyed this comic as so many of us have, please consider supporting its artist!

I have seen this one started to be passed around so I would like to say: please reblog a version with proper credit attached, or better yet the artist’s own post about this comic, located here!

Happy Halloween!

It’s that time of the year again! I have Scaredy Cat mini books on my website (heatherfranzen.com/shop)

Thank you to those who already ordered!!

Every year I see this comic passed around from people who are not the artist. Here’s the artist’s post, with details on hard-copies of that lovely little Halloween cat comic that we’ve all enjoyed so much over the years. If you’ve enjoyed it, too, and have the ability to support the artist, please consider picking up a copy!

I hate that I’m always trying to find cool biology themed stuff to wear but all the “nature inspired” clothing companies just have like two crossed arrows or a minimalistic mountain on a sweatshirt. Fucking lame, that’s barely even nature-adjacent. Put the life cycle of a salamander on a jacket, put hyena skeleton patterns on leggings, put a damn field guide of birds of prey on a peacoat and THEN you can have my money. Do NOT give me a shirt with a leaf on it that says “stay wild” or some bullshit I would much prefer clothing that broadcasts to everyone around me how many teeth an adult Jaguar has or how some pitcher plants can catch and digest rats.

recommendations from the notes :)

National Clean Your Home Month, aka NaClYoHo or “Salty Pirates” month, is soon to be upon us!

Each November, I “host” NaClYoHo, where participants work to make their living spaces more comfortable and pleasant. The full manifesto is at the link, but the basic premise is that each day in November you put on a podcast, tv show, playlist, or other media, and clean or organize some aspect of your home.

It’s meant to be a low-stress way to both do a yearly cleaning and also participate in an intensive project like National Novel Writing Month without having to write a novel. I’ll be posting about it again before November kicks off, but I thought I’d link to the manifesto well ahead of time, so people could brace themselves. :D

This year my big goals are to figure out how to keep my floors truly clean, replace at least one rug, and clear out the storage nook where I have a bunch of stuff that needs sorting through. I am also going to try to dedicate some time to researching those “bathroom refresh” companies that basically just put a shell over your existing shower/tub/walls and see if it’s feasible for my bathroom, which desperately needs it.
